Drive to buccaneer bay marina about 20 min north of Sechelt. Launch kayaks from here. Paddle across straight to Thormanby Island.
There is a spit between North and South Island that you can paddle through during high tide. The sheltered cove on the mainland side has a beautiful sandy beach, popular in the summer. Camping is permitted and the pit toilet is in good condition. It is also possible to take a water taxi over and arrange to be picked up later.
You can paddle easily around the island and or over to Texada and Jedadiah for a side trip. Although it is a long open crossing and if it is windy do not attempt it the water and currents can be quite strong and there are often tugs with log jams in tow.
