This trail provides easy access into the Babine Mountains Recreation Area. The views are quite spectacular and varied, including occasionally sights of goats (up to 100 sometimes) grazing on the mountain slopes surrounding Ganokwa basin. At the bridge, follow the stream up toward the pass. Before you climb up the back of Harvey Mountain, make sure to continue to the small lake to get a fine view of Driftwood Canyon and Joe L'Orsa cabin in the distance.
Just after crossing the Bulkley river and 3 km east of Smithers on Highway 16, turn left onto Old Babine Lake Road and follow signs to Driftwood Canyon provincial Park area. The road heads up the hill and curves back to overlook Smithers before bearing right and downhill to where it crosses Canyon Creek. After passing Snake road going off to the left, the main road makes a sharp right turn and start climbing. In 3 km, at the intersection with Telkwa High road, turn left and in 2 km turn right onto Driftwood Road, all the while following the Driftwood Canyon Provincial Park signs. Look for the sign Lyon Creek Trail and park there. Continue on foot on the same road to the beginning of the McCabe Trail.
