A lot of forested switchbacks to the top, then a sweet ridge walk to the "cap". Not too savage a climb, but it doesn't stop until the top. Pack a lunch or even a tent and make a longer trip out of it.
There is a new trailhead staging area due to the old trail running through private property - follow the signs on Shunda road to get there. This has shortened the hike to 6.5k one way or 13k round trip. There are trail maps at the staging area.
Going west from Rocky Mountain House down Hwy. 11 and take the turn off just across from the Nordegg town access (Shunda Road). Follow the signs for the Coliseum trail as they have changed the trailhead staging area due to the old trail running through private property.

UpsideGreat hike for beginners! DownsideWe went May long weekend and the weather wasn't the greatest, so our views were non existent. CommentThis is definitely a hike I intend to do again on a warmer and clear day to take in the, from what I hear are AMAZING views of Abraham Lake and area.

UpsideAwesome trails. Cool to go around the rocks and can actually make it to the top. Myself, sister in law, and my two daughter that are 14 and 11 did this together. CommentWe clocked it at 16.6 km. took us 5 hours.

Upsideclosest mountain to red deer Downsidenot super huge CommentThis was really fun. I pushed/rode my bike up to the top in about 2.5 hours. Hung out for a bit and then went down in around 40 min. Its a solid ride. The trail is pretty easy for an experience rider but definitely the most fun you'll have this close to red deer.

Commentthere are some sweet camping spots along the spine at the top. a little sheltered with great views. no formal fire pits, but evidence of campfires for sure.
