Circa 14 km loop through a plateau on the mountain. The uphill sections are not too steep. Great diversity of trees/forests along the way, some forests are simply beautiful. The area gets tons of snow which makes the trip even more magical. A narrow trail gets packed periodically for ease of hike.
We made this an overnight hike and stayed at the Ruisseaux cabin. Beautiful, comfy little cabin (16' x16') sleeps 4. $25 /person/night. No electricity, no running water, the staff brings in wood (they had even made a fire for the place to be warm when we got there).
Les amis de la montagne du diable are VERY well organized so we were in and out of the info center in no time. They understand hikers are antsy to get to the mountain.
They offer a transport service for those who don't want to carry their backpack to the cabin. $14/ person BUT $56 minimum (i.e., there has to be a min of four using the service).
Calculate an extra $5/ for park access passes. Web site is currently in french only http://www.montagnedudiable.com/
Beautiful, beautiful hike. We worked hard but greatly appreciated the scenery and the snow. Cabin was very comfortable. I recommend it!!
