Great little hidden jewel of Golden Ears Park just off the west canyon trail. This is a very steep trail and just goes up and up. With relief and reward at a view point along the way. Elevation grade drops for a short section before the really steep section to the peak. Which will require some hand holds to get past some of the rock sections. But you are rewarded with great views
Drive to Golden Ears Provincial park and follow signs to West Canyon trail parking lot. Take the West Canyon Trail then take a left up the View Point Trail. Continue past the overgrown lake viewpoint to the left and past a creek crossing with a waterfall. 40 passes from them 1.5km marker hang a right and head straight up into the forest and pick up some flagging tape. Past this point the trail is obvious and climbs steeply up to the peak.

UpsideI made a Helpful Video Of Evans Peak showing you what to expect and posted it on Youtube. Here is a link! http://bit.ly/EvansPeakYoutubeVideo Downsidemosquitoes! Commentwe went in late june and their was still a hint of snow on the ground.
Lots of avalanche activity. Entire valley where heli-pad is located about 50% of the way up taken out by avalanche from waterfall up above. Avy runout encompasses the entirety of the creek that is appx. 75% of the way up.
***? Wolf activity in the area - Deer Carcass ripped apart , remains spread across vast area - killsite located on trail.

UpsideA day hike nice forest quiet Downsideminor mountain - views are nice but nothing super special incessantly steep trail CommentHiked it alone Oct3. I imagine the only hiker of the day. A crisp dry day. Fall is in the air. The trail is steep for most of it. You are given a nice reprieve once up on the ridge and then a short climb with some rope and your up. Not bad. Some nice views from the top. 4.5 hrs return with a good break on the top

UpsideGreat length for a day hike. Satisfying challenge. Amazing views from the peak (which is reachable in time for lunch). DownsideEvil incline. Laughably short switchbacks. One tricky section for the dog. CommentExcellent hike. It was pretty the whole way through and beautiful at the top. It's a rewarding, but difficult hike. Its challenge should not be underestimated. Proper footwear, gear, and water are essential. The trail isn't busy and cell service is intermittent so, if something goes wrong, you could be on your own. There is one spot where my dog struggled to scramble up (and she is large, very strong, and agile). I wouldn't say that the trail is unsuitable for dogs - mine loved it - but be realistic about what your dog can handle.

Upsidevery steep , good workout, great views (if its not cloudy) Downsidevery steep, poor view if cloudy, no hot girls sun tanning at the top CommentThis is a great hike, Me and a buddy did this hike this morning with my dog Cooper. There is one very steep section at the top with a rope that Cooper had a bit of trouble with, but with some encouragement he made it no problem. Don't forget to leave a few beers chilling in the creek at the start of the trail. Then enjoy those cold beers as a reward on your way down. <BR>Cheers!

UpsideIf you are in shape and tired of the grouse grind, this is more of a challenge. Beautiful hike. DownsideI felt it was kind of risky at the end. We could see the summit but we had to scramble over rocks and roots with no rope and it was deep on each side so we didnt take the risk. CommentKind of disappointed not to make it up there, we were close. At least not a bit of snow up there anymore.

UpsideThis a really great hike although not as popular as many others in the same area. Excellent work out for those who like really steep trails. It is not far from the city and easy to access DownsideNothing really to complain about. This trail is not very well marked once off the West Canyon trail so watch for pink tape. Some section are very slippery when covered with snow. CommentI'm not quite sure why more people do not do this hike. It is not far from the city, challenging enough to get your hart pumping and legs burning, it does have some excellent views, and did I mention it is steep as hell in some places? We haven't reached the peak on our first attempt but sure thing we will be back again! Stop by our website for more pictures: goaroundglobe.com
