This route follows the Bird River north and east through a series of lakes (Tulabi, Elbow, MacGregor, Snowshoe) with up to 6 portages, some of which are challenging, especially when wet. Lots of great camping sites marked with white metal signs. Designated camp sites typically have fire pits and primitive latrines. It can be busy with lots of canoes and campers on the weekend so you may want to consider doing this route during the week if possible.

We camped on the west edge of Snowshoe Lake (GPS estimated 23.5 km from Tulabi Falls boat launch), so stronger canoeists could do this trip in 2 days. We took 4 days and had lots of time to relax. The fishing is reportedly excellent on this route, which may explain its popularity.

Directions:

From Winnipeg perimeter take highway 59 to provincial road (PR) 317, north on hgwy 11, east on PR313, n on PR315 to Tulabi Falls Campground. Park in the designated parking lot and go downhill along the trail to the Tulabi Lake boat launch.

Downside The water was too slow most of the time and when it wasnt calm the wind was strong Comment even though it was slow going I did have some fun running the third rapids.
