Situated not far from the original 1927 site, the new ACC Fay Hut offers access to the Neil Colgan hut and the Valley of Ten Peaks area overlooking Moraine Lake. Many ascents can be made from the hut in a day including Mts. Little, Fay and Quadra.

The hut is also used as a destination on skis or snowshoes in the winter. Turns are somewhat limited around the hut, but if the weather is clear and the avalanche hazard is low, you can spend time amongst the spectacular Ten Peaks on the glacier above the hut. Please check the latest Avalanche Bulletins.

Located on a treed bench above Prospectors Valley, just south of the Valley of the Ten Peaks, the hut is an enjoyable 12 km hike or ski. Be forewarned - you gain almost 450 of the 600 metre elevation gain in the last 2 km! There is a 50 metre-high rocky headwall in this section. In the summer, there is big hemp rope in place which will give you some assistance. In winter, you will ascend this section with your skis on your back.

As a Class A hut, Fay is well equipped with propane and solar for lighting and cooking, a woodstove and wood for heating, comfy foam pads for sleeping and all the necessary cooking and eating utensils. The hut sleeps 12 in both summer and winter.

The original Fay hut was the first facility ever built by the Club, in 1927! It served us proudly until the devastating Kootenay Park fires of 2003 destroyed it completely. Through the efforts of a countless number of people, the new Fay hut is a literal Phoenix.

UPDATE: Sad news. The ACC's Fay Hut burned down again in April 2009. Unsure at this point if it will be rebuilt again anytime soon... See article from the Calgary Herald. Rebuilt Kootenay Hut Burns Down for the Second Time since 2005
