Elevation gain; 2300ft to the top of 1300m(4300ft) peak for unobstructed views of Atlin lake, Surprise lake, Juneau icecap. The large summit plateau has caribou trails the traverse to the next valley. Visit the many ponds, rocky outcrops for bouldering, and various view points to see all of Atlin lake and surrounding valleys full of mining roads, gold claims, active mines and many more trails/camping spots.

Turn south from Alaska hwy 78km east of Whitehorse at Jakes Corners. Follow the Atlin road to Atlin (about 2hrs on gravel rd). Continue south from Atlin on Warm Springs road just off of Discovery Ave. After 5.5 km there is a parking lot with a trail sign. Two trails start here: trail goes to the beach on your right, and the Mt Monarch trail is across the road uphill, see the new trail sign. Follow the good trail uphill, cross 2 roads that lead to houses and continue in the bush and towards a rocky ridge. Reach the summit plateau after 2 hrs or so. There are many small rock outcrops, ponds and caribou trails on top.
