Really short trail - nice quick leg stretch to break up a road trip. The idea isn't so much a grunt up a hill, as a chance to experience a strange and fascinating landscape.
The trail passes about 100m through some deciduous forest, then pops out at the foot of the rock glacier - this giant mound of lichen-speckled rocks.
The "trail" is indicated by a border of smaller rocks and switchbacks gently to an information sign and a wind-break fort that someone has recently built. It is easy to go beyond the trail to pick your way higher for some nice views of the surrounding landscape. Oh, and as easy as it looks to scramble the hillock at the top of the glacier - it's way bigger and steeper than it looks from a distance. Only expert scree-surfers and goats should attempt it.
Directions:
Well-signed off the Haines hwy, at km 202 (on the west side of road - 44km south of Haines). It is quite close to the Dezadeash Lake campground (excellent place to pitch a tent, by the way).
