This is a long trail set in the coastal barens and coastal forests of southeast Cape Breton Island. After leaving the village of Gabarus, you will not see another human disturbance for the next few hours. I would actually set off and camp at the place called Winging Point...which is a point of land that really juts put in the ocean. I've hiked this trail and also brought my mountain bike a few times to be able to push off further in one day.
The first few km are set on top of cliffs followed by forest and then up a large hill. Up the hill you have a beautiful view of where you have been and also where you will head to. The beaches near the Winging Point are cobbles so that's the end of the mountain bike portion but you can walk all the way to Fourchu Bay but you will have to get wet to cross the last outlet and to be back on the road in Fourchu.
Highway 327 to Gabarus. the hike sets off to the south of the village.
