We are new to Alberta and have been researching hikes and came across Mnt Shunda in Nordegg Alberta. So this wasn't very easily marked and no one has really made posts about this mountain. So when you see the main Nordegg sign you go 1km further and take a right. You should see two peaks one will be Mnt Shunda and the other will be Mnt Colliseum. So after that right hand turn you drive approx 5km and you come to a Y in the road you go right. Then you will come to another Y in the road and you take the left toward Mnt Shunda. We went here in the winter so it was really bad road conditions to get to the base. The base in the summer time there will be a gate and from there it is a 400m Elevation Gain.. We could not get this high due to the snow so we started at a start elevation of 1620m and end elevation is 2120m. A total normally of 3km up and 3km down (from the gate) from where we started was 4km and 4km down! (But a better workout right?) The hike up to the summit is super steep with some plateaus, but totally worth the hike! we took our chocolate lab on this trip and she loved it! When you reach the summit you can basically see all of the rockies (on a nice clear day) and you will see some electrical towers so just avoid those in photos haha. We would totally do this hike again, it just needs to be bit better marked for newbies such as us :)
Heading on Highway 11 towards Rocky Mountain House, through Rocky Mountain House to Nordegg. When you reach the main Nordegg sign you go 1km further and take a right. Go about 5km and will come to a Y in the road take a right turn. Again drive about 2min further and you should see another Y in the road this time go left. We went during the winter so the roads were AWFUL but should be good in summer even fall or spring. After Y in the road you will go about 5km and you should come to a red gate. From there the trail starts.
