A solid trail starts from the side of the David Thompson Highway leading up to a small plateau above the road. You will notice an old set of tracks from a piece of heavy equipment. From this point hike and scramble up the ridge. The route is straightforward as long as you don't vear off the spine. Once a high point is reached with a large cairn you can make an optional ascent of the buckle with a short hike along the ridge and up to the rear of The Buckle. From this point on the route requires route finding up some 4th class terrain with significant exposure.
Follow Highway 11 towards Cline River until a spot where the highway runs through the mountain, there is a popular turnoff for tourists on the side of the road with a small lake on the opposite side.
