Troll Falls trail is part of a network of cross country ski trails which double as hiking trails in the summer. They are located in Kananaskis Country near the base of the Nakiska downhill ski hil which was built for the 1988 Olympic Winter Games. The Troll Falls trail is an easy trail to a nice waterfall. Enjoyable in any season, it follows the ski trails for most of the way, then branches off for the final kilometer. Elevation gain is minor. You can return the same way or keep left at the first fork (returning) and follow the trail along the Kananaskis River.
Directions:
The trailhead is located just off (right) of the Nakiska road about a half mile from highway 40 in Kananaskis. Look for 'Stoney Trailhead' sign.

UpsideTroll Falls is nice but the best hike is above falls along creek. DownsideNot much of hike to falls. Boring with a lot of people out for the short walk. CommentGet above the falls and take the camera. A great way to spend a sunny afternoon. Keep an eye out for side trails up to the ski runs and an easy way back to trailhead.

UpsideThis is a great trail for kids and/or just a small hike to get you out of the house. If you do Geocaching, you will find at least two caches there. DownsideGetting to the main falls is kind of boring CommentIf your looking for more...You can go up above the waterfall and look down at everyone at the bottom...But if you want more, keep going back, there are at least 3 or 4 more waterfalls. This part is not good for kids, but there are trails, you just have to keep an eye out for them. Going above the waterfalls is my favorite part of this whole hike, people normally turn back at the bottom of the main falls and have no clue what they are missing.

UpsideTrail to the first waterfall is easy and nice for families with small children. DownsideThe real hike lies beyond the first waterfall, before this isn't not very scenic and can be quite noisy. CommentAfter reaching the waterfall the trail continues to several nicer ones. It is at times steep for short distances and follows the meandering creek through forest, ending in a canyon.
Reaching the extended trail requires crossing the creek at the first waterfall to a short but steep path leading to the mouth of the waterfall. Follow the creek upwards from there.

UpsideThe waterfall is nice to see. You can walk behind it and look out through the water. DownsideThe trail is not very scenic since it is basically in the trees all the way. The whole time you hear noise from the highway so a nice peaceful trip will not happen. CommentThis is a nice trip to take your aging parents (grandparent) or young kids on. We did reach the falls and happen to be there to take pictures for a young couple. The guy happen to propose to her under the falls.
I rated it below average because of the lack of scenery along the trail and the noisy.
