This is relatively easy hike to an active Fire Look that provides fantastic views of the Kananasksis valley and lakes.

Directions:

Paved pull off on the west side of Highway 40 about 8km south of the gate into Peter Lougheed Prov Park.

Go around gate at pull off, over Pocaterra creek and head south following old fire road. Head south on trail known as Whiskey Jack.

It's a fire road and the lookout person does drive it on occasion

There are signs posted saying the trails are for cross country skiing and that snowshoeing or hiking will ruin the trail. I came to this page, saw that it said winter hiking, packed up my truck, and went. Signs posted at trailhead, no hiking as it ruins the trail for skiers. Huge waste of time.

Downside The hike is all uphill all the way Comment This is a great way to get a panormaic view of the area. The trail to the lookout can be boring so it is best that you start from the pulloff on Highway 40, 8km south of the Kananaskis Lakes Trail intersection. This reduces the hike to 2.5 km one way as opposed to 7 km one way from Boulton Creeek

Downside only minor challenge was figuring out we had to park at the boulton creek trading post.
Comment trail starts near the restaurant.

while trail is easy to follow and relatively smooth, it gets a slightly steeper towards the end.

Went out in late september, lots of bear prints in the mud, be bear safe!

Great views from the top, even on a cruddy day
