Starting from the resort side, you don't run into too many people. Downside Not really a downside, but pay attention, as in certain places it could be really bad if you stumble or slide. Comment Have done this a couple times with my border collie, starting from Bear Mtn Resort. I'd do it more often if I didn't live on the mainland!

Baker (when it's not cloudy), the Olympics, and the untouched, protected Goldstream Park area. It (the front/south side) can be done, up & down, in just over a couple of hours. Downside As any local you speak to on the trek will tell you, the construction on Bear Mountain is a downer, it's loud and an eye sore. The rocks are quite slippery if it's been raining, though the rock climbing parts are all above tree level, so w/ the right amount of sun and time, they dry quickly. Comment Finlayson is close to downtown Victoria, and you cannot beat the view... On a non-cloudy day. I have yet to do the back/north side of the mountain, but have done the steep front side many 'o times, and am yet to tire of it.

Downside Slippery when wet. Comment Have proper foot wear for weather conditions
