This is the first half of the trail. It's a leisurely trail for 4.3 kms (3 miles) from the Artist Point TH to the point where we turned around. Start at 1550 m el, high point is 1700 m, low point is 1530, beautiful views. We turned back due to the thick fog that made going the distance (9 kms each way) too dangerous.

Hope to do the full trip and upload the full GPS data summer of 2007 (keep posted)

Directions:

Take WA state highway from Bellingham eastward to the end of the road up Mt Baker to Artist Point parking lot (approx 70 miles (100 kms)). From Sumas BC, hway 547 southeast to hway 542, then eastward as described above.

Fantastic views from every point on the 9 km trail, of Mt Baker, Mt Shuksan, and all points in between. Downside Still patches of snow here and there, wore mini-crampons at times, but considering the trail never opened in 2011 for too much snow, it was great. Very short season, late August to late September. Comment Have now provided complete GPS data to the lip of the ice field. High point was 1865 m, low point was 1530 m, total ascent was 465 m, so a moderate trail overall, but beautiful.

Views are amazing, goats, unbelievable colors Downside Very popular trail (artist point) Weather can blow in very quickly - located between Baker and Shuksan Comment Listen for Baker`s glaciers thundering. Spotty 30 goats far down the trail
