Rough trail which follows Vulcan creek to a point where a cliff makes it impossible to continue.
The creek can be followed further upstream by cutting off to the left at a small rock ridge, and following a faint trail into the bush uphill to go above the cliffs, but the route is very rough along the creek past this point and requires numerous crossings. It leads to a mountaineering route to climb Vulcan peak to overlook Kluane park.
This area is grizzly habitat, where we were surprised to see a grizzly sneak up on us while taking photos near the cliffs.
Drive about 3.4 km along the Alaska Highway from Sheep Mountain Information Center towards Haines Junction. Cross the Slims River Bridge and turn right at the first gravel road. Continue along this road for about 2 km to the trailhead. Parking for only 3 or 4 vehicles.
Nearest camping on Kluane Lake is a very nice site at Cottonwood Park a few kilometers past the visitor center towards Burwash landing past Soldiers summit.
