This is another fun trail leaving from near the Blue Lake Centre connecting to the forestry road near Fishermaiden lake. The Deer creek trail is almost 3km long and winds its way down some 120 m to the road below, coming out near the lake. This is a lot of fun in winter, following a nice ski track and fluffy snow around the switchbacks.
This trail also connects to the Whitetail lake trail, which follows the shoreline of this large lake for several kilometers to the BC Forestry campsite. The campsite is a very popular place, well-used all summer for hiking, fishing, boating and weekend getaways. There is also a private fishing lodge located on the far end of the lake.
Drive south of Invermere, past Fairmont and turn off Highway 93/95 onto Findlay Creek RD, approximately 4 km North of the Canal Flats gas station. Follow the signs for 26 km until you reach Blue Lake Centre. Check all the forks and intersections for Blue Lake signs, there are a number of side roads. The road is plowed all winter by Tembec operations.
This trail starts from near Blue Lake just down the road from the parking area near the lake. Watch out for logging operations in winter of 2006-7 in this area.
