Quaite Valley to Prairie View trail with extension to Barrier Lookout.
Using two vehicles one positioned at the Barrier lake dam parking for use upon completion of the walk, this becomes a one way 14 km walk through Quaite Valley to Prairie View trail to the lookout and down to the Barrier lake Dam.
There are two trails through the Quaite valley the lower one is more travelled including by bikes. The upper one we used (see GPS track) is on the map but is fast becoming grown over and involves circum venting numerous fallen trees. It's not an an overly scenic trail either mostly in the trees however the scenery becomes great when you approach the lookout.
Trans Canada Highway (1) east bound lane opposite Loder Peak sign, pull off at Quaite creek logging road, there is a sign at the trailhead.

Upsidegreat reward for minimum effort (when approaching from Barrier Lake) Downsidevery muddy in wet weather CommentThis route can be many different hikes. It's possible to start at Barrier Lake and climb up to Prairie View Viewpoint. This hike is quite easy. The trail is busy and very well defined, although can be very muddy. The view is fantastic and a great reward for a relatively easy climb through steady switchbacks in the trees. Starting from Quaite Creek add difficulty to this hike; however, I would still say its moderate at most.

UpsideFantastic views into the Bow Valley, the surrounding mountains and a glimpse of Calgary! DownsideSlightly busy trail lower down but a great walk for those "dipping their toes" into the Rockies. CommentWe went out from Barrier Lake and back, as only one car, which was a great walk for getting back into hiking and gradually easing people into more adventurous walks.
