BarkerVille is a historic town close to the Bowron Lakes Canoe circuit. A fantastic old West town, complete with a China Town, all the shops, and, even a few ghosts.
Near Barkerville (once the largest town East of Chicago and North of San Francisco - in the 1850s), there are a number of impressive hiking and scross-country ski trails.
For more information, contact the tourist information center at Barkerville. Note there are some B&B's right in Hitoric Barkerville, which are in fact some of the original Hotels from the mining days.
The remainder of this description is of the Mount Agnes Trail:
Take the lower road past the Richfield Courthouse
Cross the creek running beside the Courthouse, and up over a slight hump beyond the bridge
Take the middle road which goes uphill. Do not take the left hand road which follows along WIlliams Creek or the right hand road which follows the creek along-side the courthouse
The road goes uphill approx 2 miles, where it levels out at an alpine meadow
Cross the meadow to an old ditch line - a well defined trail follows the ditch line
The ditch line eventually brings you out along the Jack'O Clubs Creek and a small tumbled down cabin - called Cooper's cabin. Follow the trail past the cabin and along the creek, until the creek forks.
Cross the creek at the fork and proceed along the upper creek - the trail beside and in some cases this is above this creek will be uphill and takes you to Groundhog Lake and the base of Mt. Agnes
The cabin situated at Groundhog Lake is not maintained by Parks and Forestry, so if you use it, clean up ALL your garbage and pack it out with you. Please replace any burned fire wood

UpsideGreat views. Nice ride into an Alpine Lake Downsidebuggy CommentWorth the effort. If you're feeling really adventurous you can try to do the loop on the Snowmobile trail. We didn't due to weather.
