KENO SUMMIT TRAIL, Distance 21 - 25 km, Elevation 5,600 ft
This trail can be driven in the summer to an elevation of 5,000 ft. Starting in Keno City, (Elevation 3,120 ft, N 63o 54' 36"; W 135o 18' 05"). There are numerous scenic vistas on the 10.5 km drive (hike) to the top. At the summit stands the famous Sign Post giving distances to major cities in the world. From this vantage point you have a spectacular view of endless mountain ranges to the north. A variety of short hiking trails starts here leading you through alpine meadows and marmot habitat. If you choose to hike from Keno City to the Keno summit you can return on the south east side of Keno Hill by way of the Keno-700 Road, which branches off to the southeast shortly before the Sign Post. This winding road takes you past the Keno-700 mine site down into the valley back to Keno City.
Keno is a charming frontier town in Yukon, Canada. Boomtown in the 1920s silver mining heyday. Now a quiet hamlet of 25 people, home to an eclectic mix of artists, miners and old-timers. Lots of accessible trails in a spectacular mountain setting. Several lakes with great fishing nearby. Lodging, food, bar, museum.
