Excellent kayaking and fishing on this lake. There are a lot of streams to kayak up into and fish in the dead water areas. In the summer, use the fresh water clams as bait and fish away! The lake usually freezes over in the winter so there is plenty of ice fishing and snowmobiling. Snowshoeing is great in the winter! Plenty of moose and other wildlife to see.
The trail starts just to the right of the boat launch and starts off walking thru a slow moving river. You can walk all the way around the lake, which may take way longer than 6 hours. The trail goes in and out from time to time since there are not a lot of people that go here (yay for us!) The sights, paddling, snowshoeing, and camping are amazing!
Take 95 north all the way up to Route 2 in Howland. follow route 2 to Lincoln and take 2a through Mattawamkeag, Macwahoc and into Glenwood (population: 6) Take a left at Dixie Rd./Lake Rd. and follow that for a few miles. When it bears to the right you should see the lake and the boat launch.
