Mackerel Cove is the most popular town beach in Jamestown. It's famous for its placid waters and seemingly endless sand bar that was created by the hurricane of 1938. The beach has calm wave breaks that make exiting and entering comfortable and easy from your kayak. Mackerel cove is a wonderful place to get acclimated in your boat. The sand bar provides shallow water for easy wet exits. This is a great place to learn your roll and braces. During the fall season when the water is the warmest and those nor?easters start to come up north you can catch some pretty good waves. Nothing bigger than waist high but its perfect for getting the fundamentals down ( entering surf, exiting surf and SURFING ) ... Plus its beautiful, so no matter what the water conditions are you will have a great day of paddling.
