Third Beach is what we like to call "The Geriatric and Baby Beach". This beach is located at the mouth of the Sakonnet River and is protected from the ocean surf. The great side to this is that the beach is very calm with almost no waves, great for swimming or sunbathing with little to no interruptions. Because there are no waves on the beach this is also a great spot to launch kayaks from. The only downside to this beach is that there are no waves or anything exciting to paddle at all.

This is a great place to paddle in the spring, summer and fall because it is an easy launch with great paddling all around. Be aware that there is a parking fee.

In the fall, winter, and spring this is a fantastic place for kiting on the beach. The tourist have dropped to a minimum at these times giving you the entire beach to play with.

Directions:

From the north:

Take 24S to the 138S/ Newport beaches exit. From there, follow E Main Rd/ RI- 138. Take a left at Mitchells Lane, and then turn right at Third Beach Rd. The beach is right along that road.
