The trail system behind the Audubon Society leads to some wonderful scenic views of Lake Massabesic.

Though not extensive, these trails, include fire roads, as well as a few narrow paths great for some easy

single-track mountain biking. In addition, these trails lead to a few semi-secluded spots right on the water

perfect for taking a break and catching a nice breeze off the lake.

Take exit 1 off Route 101, and head South. Take the second right off the traffic circle and follow Route 28

South for just a couple of miles. You'll come to a small concrete bridge with views of Massabesic to your left

and right. Just past the bridge on your left is the trailhead. There's a small parking lot, but if it's full it's

reasonable to park on the shoulder of Route 28. This is also a popular spot to launch your kayak.

Alternatively you can continue down 28 to the Audubon Society (just follow the signs) and park there.

Make sure to stop for a moment and say hi to the resident owl at the main entrance to the Audubon

facility. To access the trails from the Audubon, just follow the signs.

By CrimsonraenPosted By: Crimsonraen  - Tue Oct 28 02:36:30 UTC 2008 Not Rated Comment I actually just posted a kayak entry for Masabeisic, which also talks a bit about the trails. I included a few pictures from the trails as well as while kayaking, so feel free to check 'em out!
