This great recreational corridor is perfect for bike rides, walks and hikes on a couple of adjacent trails. The canal paths travel the canal's north and south shores for much of the way. On the north shore, there are the Bourndale Interpretive Trail and the Sagamore Hill Trail. Great spot overall for fishing, bird watching, botany and more. The north shore Bike and Pedestrian Way is 7 miles one way; the Southern Bike and Pedestrian Way is 6.5 miles one-way. The Bournedale Interpretive Trail is a 0.8 mile loop and the Sagamore Hill Trail is 0.7 miles round trip.
In the Bourne/Sagamore area, find the canal by US Highway 6/Canal Road to the north; US Highway 6A/Sandwich Road to the south. From east & west, access the Northern Bike and Pedestrian Way at Scusset Beach State Reservation, at Sagamore and Herring Run Recreation Areas, and at Buzzards Bay below Railroad Bridge. From east to west, reach the Southern Bike and Pedestrian Way at Sandwich Marina, Bourne Recreation Area, and the Tidal Flats Recreation Area.
