This relatively easy and short paddle is in the 1000 Island Region of the St. Lawrence River in Upstate NY. Be advised that although the paddle is relatively easy and short you will encounter boat traffic and must be comfortable paddling in moderate waves. You can put in at Alexandria Bay, NY and paddle about 1/2 mile across the river to view historic Boldt Castle by water. Modeled after a Rhineland Style Castle the castle was built in the early 1900's by George Boldt for his wife. The castle has undergone extensive renovations over the past 15 years to bring it back to its former luster. History, incredible architecture and a tragic loss are all part of the Boldt Castle lore. You can tour the castle and grounds for a fee that is well worth it, as inside you will see the European craftsmanship that shaped an island into a masterpiece.
There are a number of boat launches in Alexandria Bay and you can contact the Alexandria Bay Chamber of Commerce for more information.
