This 401 acre State Park is part of the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. It is located in the southwest corner of Cape Cod and features estuarine and freshwater ponds, coastal and bay beaches, coastal shrub, and wood habitats. There are 3 trails: Great Flat Pond Trail 1-mile loop, Dead Neck Beach-Waquoit bay Hike 3.7 miles round trip, and Eastward Beach Hike 1.6 miles round trip. All are flat. Vehicle admission fee in summer; no dogs. Respect nesting sites. Open year round during day light hours.
Directions: from the Mashpee Rotary on Rt. 28, take Great Neck Road south. In 2.6 miles, where Main St. cuts right, continue forward on Great Oak Rd., following signs for the park; in another 2 miles turn left onto the unpaved entrance road. Within a mile you'll find a paved road heading left; it leads to the state park's parking lot & beach boardwalk. The dirt road continues, ending at a town beach parking lot.
