This was a funny trip. Bonnie and I spent 3 other days off shore in the salt water surrounding MDI. We decided to finish up the week with a fresh water paddle to rinse off the boats and take it easy. With a steady, strong wind from the South, this turned out to be the biggest water we saw on the whole island. We stayed close to shore and couldn't believe the small breakers that sprayed our faces as we headed South and pushed us back to the launch quickly on the return leg. Many submerged rocks and tree stumps along the shore added to the difficulty of what originally appeared to be a quiet water paddle. We saw a beautiful pair of loons and some tri-colored grass in the South end that was just stunning. I would recommend a slow, contemplative paddle on Eagle Lake. Get your heart pumping and a solid workout another day.
The ramp is on the Northern tip of the lake which is only 2 miles from downtown Bar Harbor.
