Located between Rehobth Beach and Bethany Beach, the Indian River Inlet is the connection point for the Atlantic Ocean and Indian River Bay. There are a lot of islands to kayak on the relatively flat water of the bay (the actual Indian River is NOT flat at all - the currents are crazy) but the real fun is surfing on the beach on the ocean side! Surfing is allowed here all day long and the farther you move away from the actual inlet, the more space you'll have to surf without having to worry about swimmers and all of the other surfers (body, boogie boards, and short and long boards, kite surfing and jet ski's are all very popular here). If you get tired of kayak surfing, don't forget to bring a fishing pole and join everyone on the rock jetty for some bluefish runs! Or you could always sit on the beach and tan.

Directions:

From Rehoboth beach to the north, or Bethany Beach to the south, take the Rt. 1 coastal highway to Inlet rd on the bay side (from the south it?s on the left, from the north it's on the right). Park in the parking lot next to the giant construction site - they are eventually putting a new bridge in. There is a fee for parking, but it's worth it. There is a short walk to the beach under the highway, so if you bring a kayak wheeled carrier, it could help.
