This trail lies within the grounds of Philips Academy and run through the school's bird sanctuary. It's mainly a network of gravel paths that skirt artificial ponds. The trail begins at the end of Chapel Ave once you pass through the metal fence. As you proceed down the path bear right at the fork and continue over the bridge crossing a small brook. You will have several chances to divert from the main train to walk a series of loops around each of the artifical ponds. Continue to follow the main trail and it will eventually circle back to the main trail and carry you back to the parking area. This trail is very easy and is a great quick escape from the hustle and buslte of the area. The best bird watching is usually in May and early June. The Sanctuary closes at 6pm each night and dogs are not allowed.
From 495 North, take the exit for Route 28 Andover. Proceed down route 28 passing Shawsheen plaza. You will proceed up a hill and then pass through downtown Andover. As you begin to drive up another hill, You will find Phillips Academy. Chapel Ave will be off to your left at the lights.
