If you live in the area, and are looking for a quick escape, Horn Pond in Woburn is a nice place to put your kayak in for an easy paddle. There are two boat launches with parking located on opposite ends of the pond. You’ll see joggers and walkers of all sorts along the perimeter of the pond on a paved walking trail; and there’s a nice network of trails that branch off in and around the pond. Mountain bikers can explore trails that branch out in and around Horn Pond Mountain (really a large hill – but that’s what it’s called). Climb that hill, and you’ll see some nice views of the Boston skyline. Road Bikers can enjoy a bikeway that extends to Winchester and Lexington. All in all, Horn Pond provides a nice escape to nature nestled in the midst of a suburban setting.

Directions:

From Main Street (Rte. 38) in Woburn: turn onto Lake Avenue directly across from Bill and Bob’s restaurant near the Woburn/Winchester line (If coming from Winchester, it’s a left; if coming from Woburn it’s a right). Follow Lake Ave. a short distance to the main parking lot on the right.
