This 19 mile circuit hike to Glastonbury Mountain, leads to some very nice views, a lean-to, and a fire tower. At one point along the trail a wind farm is visible.

Starting at the parking lot on VT Route 9, travel north on the white blazed Long Trail/Appalachian Trail. The trail is steep for the first mile. At 0.7 miles you will pass through the two halves of Split Rock. Soon after crossing two wood roads at 1.6 miles there is a spur trail leading to Melville Nauheim Shelter. This shelter has space for 8. Continuing north on the LT, there are views at miles 2.1 (Maple Hill), 4.4 (Porcupine Lookout), 7.6 (Glastonbury Lookout). The Goddard Shelter is reached at 10.1 miles from the parking lot. The view from the shelter is very nice and Mount Greylock is visible to the south. Set up camp here for the night, then continue north past the shelter for a panoramic view from the fire tower on the summit of Mount Glastonbury.

Beyond the west side of the shelter, you will find the way back to the car. The West Ridge Trail will lead you past a beaver pond, a few unnamed peaks and eventually Bald Mountain (7.8 miles). At Bald Mountain you will have views to the north. From the summit, look for the eastern branch of the Bald Mountain Trail. Follow this trail to Harbour Rd then to Vermont Route 9 east. Use extreme caution while on Route 9, cars travel at highway speeds.

The Long Trail Guide was used to make this summary.

The U.S. Forest Service parking lot is reached via Vermont Route 9. From Bennington travel east for 5.0 miles or 8.8 miles west from the intersections of VT 9 and VT 8.
