You can explore the highlands of Windsor, MA, see great views of Mt. Greylock, hike through wet meadows and see beaver ponds. The property straddles Route 9 in Windsor and both sides are worthy of exploring. The east side of the Moran property has a great little climb up Fobes Hill and is perfect for sunset viewing. The west side of the property has a wide cart path you can follow to a wetland and beaver pond and then up to an old house and barn foundation at the top. Continue straight on the trail before the left turn to the old foundation and hike into a deep evergreen forest and wet meadows. It is perfect for a moonlit snowshoe trek. *NOTE: this property is stocked with game birds-DO NOT hike there in the fall! It is an extremely exposed property in the winter so wear warm, windproof clothing.
Take Route 9 east from Pittsfield. Continue on Route 9 (sharp left turn in Dalton) and continue up to the top of the mountain. At the top you will see a general store and gas station. Take a left on Route 8A right before the stores and continue up 8A for about 1 mile. You will reach the east parking lot on your right first. Park here for access to Fobes Hill. Next, on your left you will see the west parking lot for access to the old cart roads, beaver pond and old foundation hike.
