At 7AM we put in at King's Island boat launch in Enfield CT. The current speed was 4 miles per hour and our paddle speed was 7 miles per hour for the first two hours. When we got to the Winsor portion of the trip, small rapids were encountered for two miles. Using the bridges that cross the river for position and speed info worked well. The water level during august 2008 was quite good. By 11:30 AM we were in Hartford watching the skyline roll by. On to Glastonbury and the Putnam Bridge. At 1 PM the current was starting to leave us and was now two mph. The water was now getting flatter and the river wider the closer we got to Middletown. At the RT 160 ferry the current was one mph. We got to Harbor Park after passing under the RT 66 Bridge at 4 PM. The trip was fantastic. The Amount of development on the Connecticut River banks is light; you would think you were in Maine, Vermont or Upstate New York.
