This is a fairly easy hike after an initial climb of 160m. Starting on trail 8, it takes you through lush forest with a good mix of ups and downs to keep it interesting. You will run into the lower and upper Mina Lakes fairly quickly and continue through dense forest for most of the way until you reach Riley Lake, which marks an approximate half-way point. Beyond that, the trails passes by the Cottonwood Slough, providing some nice views from a lower-valley perspective. During rainy periods this section of the trail can get extremely muddy with large puddles that can prove difficult to navigate around. After passing the Cottonwood Slough the trail will come up past a parking lot off of Pyramid Lake road. From here you will have to pick up trail 2 which completes the loop. The last section of the loop provides some good views of town as you descend back to the trailhead.
The trailhead begins out of the Jasper Activity Centre Parking Lot (303 Pyramid Avenue, near the start of Pyramid Lake Road). After the trail kiosk, follow trail 8 to the left to pick up the trail.
