The Lakeshore Trail is part of the trail system belonging to the Island Lake Lodge north of Fernie. 'Belonging to' is misleading. Although the lodge does own the land, they have made the area open to guests and the hiking/skiing/snowshoeing public.
This trail is very easy, close to the lodge and just a nice hike, just to be there, in the shadow of the Lizard Range mountains. They highlight for my wife and I was finding trilliums along the trail in late June. I'm originally from Ontario, where the trillium is the provincial flower, and hadn't seen one since the '70's. I had never seen a purple one.
This is a great place to hike for the day (or stay).
Turn off Hwy 3 into Fernie Provincial Park and just keep going up the mountain, about 8km.
