This is a beautiful little lake that definitely lives up to its name. The trail is incredibly steep and muddy in places. There were ropes near the top in 2000. You can go up to Bug Lake and back or take an extra day and go further (10 km return) to Sun Peak. Or if you can swing it, hike the entire Loquilts Trail which leads to Princess Louisa Inlet and get picked up by boat. Princess Louisa Inlet with Chatterbox Falls is so beautiful it is worth the planning to go see it. It took six days to go from the start to Princess Louisa Inlet.
Zero your odometer at the Cleveland Avenue traffic lights in Squamish. Drive north through Squamish on Highway 99 and turn left on Squamish Valley Road. Take the left fork 10 km down Squamish Valley Road. The gravel logging road starts 23 km after the fork. This is called the S-Main. At mile marker 37, turn left and cross a bridge over the Squamish River onto E-Main. After the 43-mile marker turn left and cross another bridge onto G-Main. When your odometer reads 89 km start looking for a very obvious spot on your right and park. Walk back a ways looking for flag tape on the uphill side of the road. This is the trailhead. The maps used did not have the trail or the logging road marked on it.

CommentMILE 51 of the road is WASHED OUT as of May 2004. You must walk an extra 5 miles just to get to the beginning of the trail head. I'm not sure who you check with to see if it has been repaired.

CommentI haven't done this hike but Greg Maurer did post Princess Louisa to Sims Creek Traverse which you will also find on Trailpeak. Search on 'Princess' in trail name.
