NTS Map:92F1. This is a nice walk on 5 kms of trail (about an 1 hour) that will take you out to a point with nice views. The trails are well maintained. Once you get past the lumberyard, it is amazing how quiet and forest-like it is. Nice views of Nanaimo from here and the shore scenery is really neat.
Take the Island Parkway to Nanaimo and get off at Highway 19 to Duke Point. Then get off at Jackson Road and park at the parking lot.

UpsideVery pretty views and interesting sandstone formations. DownsideCan be noisy for the first 10-15 minutes due to ferry terminal traffic and WFP operations, as well as just after rounding the point as you near the ferry terminal (announcements when a ferry is arriving or departing). CommentThis is a delightful walk with plenty or gorgeous scenery to keep your interest. The trail is easy and well maintained and offers pretty views of downtown Nanaimo, Mt. Benson, Protection Island and Stephenson Point in the background. There are numerous Arbutus and Garry Oaks and the latter are great for framing your shots of Nanaimo. Other photo opportunities include the many interesting sandstone and mudstone rock formations. This hike is considered a loop but it is really one main trail for most of the hike with a loop around Jack Point at the mid way point.
